Q.

Q. Why do you focus on welfare schemes, when there are other equally pressing issues in the country?

A.

Ans. We as India Observatory is focusing to work for commons and one of the fundamental dimensions of FES is rural livelihoods. India Observatory, an initiative of FES helps improve rural livelihoods through a set of unique platforms and tools like GEET.

One of the many challenges encountered by underprivileged communities in India is availing the benefits of scores of social welfare programs run by both state and central governments. In the absence of proper information or clarity regarding eligibility, a large part of the population, especially communities based in rural and remote areas, is literally ‘left out. While men and women miss out on employment and health benefits, children miss out on nutrition and the elderly on their monthly pension entitlement. In such a scenario, a system like GEET (GIS-Enabled Entitlement Tracking) becomes critical for good governance.

Q.

Q. How can one become a partner?

A.

Ans. We believe in contributing to an 'ecosystem organization' wherein organizations with like-minded interests share data, analytics and tools, so that they can make a lasting impact. We realize that organizations are by their very design focused on certain elements, functions or themes and that it is in the joining of hands between such organizations and initiatives that we could hope to make a reasonable impact.
